Similar to sugar colour, the turbidity in technical sugar solution is one of the important aspect in sugar quality control. Plantation white sugar (PWS) quality is remarkably improved in respect of colour in last decade however there is still scope to improve the PWS sugar in respect of 'turbidity and insoluble matter'. The turbidity measurement in sugar solution is being studied by number of scientists all over the world. Infuture the turbidity in sugar sample may be one of the important quality yardstick in international sugar trade. However, at present no official ICUMSA method is in existence for determination of turbidity in sugar solutions.This article discusses the review of various methods proposed /used for turbidity measurement in technical sugar solutions with their merits. Work done in VSI Pune on turbidity measurement especially "comparative study of various available methods for estimation of turbidity in sugar solutions" and "Effect of brix on turbidity measurement of cane sugar processing products" is discussed in this article. This article also highlights the process options to reduce turbidity in plantation white sugar.
