In Taiwan, Fuel Cycle and Materials Administration (FMCA) of the Atomic Energy Councilrnis in charge of issuing the license for the safely treating, transporting, storing, and disposingrnradwaste construction, storage and disposal of low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) for thernentire island. For the effective implementation of tight restraints and understanding of nuclearrnpower plant LLRW radioactivity, Institute of Nuclear Energy Research (INER) with therncooperation of FMCA developed Radioactive Waste Management and Analysis Systemrn(RWMS) for updating original Microsoft EXCEL analysis file system.rnBesides original Microsoft EXCEL analysis file and statistical grid and graphic displayrnfunctions, RWMS had a few new functions such as input data check mechanisms and estimaternsurface dose rate modeling were provided. Although most of requirements were clear beforernimplementation, the development team allowed user added or changed requirements duringrncoding phase via extreme programming development lifecycle. The paper concludes with arnreport on the development process of INER’s first experiences regarding the use of extremerndevelopment for the construction of advanced information system. Result indicated extremernprogramming is flexible and very suit for small project use. However, RWMS database alsornprovided extensibility and compatibility easy to integrate with other radioactive waste databasernor digital file via computer network. The development team plans to use data mining withrnassociation rule to predict LLRW radioactivity and Web service technology for networkrncommunication in the next coming version.
