AN INVESTIGATION OF THE IMPACT OF CLEANROOM ENVIRONMENTS ON WORKERS IN THE MEDICAL DEVICE INDUSTRY

In this paper a study which assesses the impact of the environment on cleanroom workers is presented. Twelve skilled female workers performed a sequence of standard dexterity tests in a cleanroom wearing both Class 100,000 and Class 10,000 garments. Worker performance on these tests was measured and compared against established norms. Physiological variables including, heart rate, respiration rate, core body temperature, skin temperature and sweat rate were monitored during the course of the tests. The workers' subjective responses to cleanroom work were measured using two questionnaires containing thermal sensation, thermal comfort and perceived exertion scales. The first questionnaire was administered a number of days before the dexterity tests and the second was administered during the execution of the tests.
