WHY UK ERGONOMICS LOST ITS CHANCE OF EXPANSION IN BRAZIL: A CONTRIBUTION TO THE ENGLISH ERGONOMICS HISTORY

The aim of this paper is to make a reflection on the role of French and British ergonomics to the development of Brazilian Ergonomics and to discuss why British ergonomics has not put a strongest role in Brazilian ergonomics as French ergonomics has done. If we take a look in the first meeting hold in Brazil, in 1974, we will see that Professors from UK were the majority. But during the eighties things changed and in all the Brazilian congress researchers from France were invited by the students that had done their PhD in Ergonomics there. This had consequences for Brazilian ergonomics and while others areas of knowledge developed a strong link with UK, the same did not happened with ergonomics.
