The paper presents the design of a test rig for components from absorption machines usingrnammonia solutions. A thermochemical compressor of an absorption machine forms the core of thernrig. Main components include: adiabatic absorber, generator, two sub-coolers and heat recoverer.rnLast four components are based on plate heat exchangers. Thermal oil drives the generatorrnsimulating a low temperature heat source, below 120 ℃. Auxiliary equipment include: solutionrnpump, thermal oil reservoir, Coriolis and Vortex flowmeters, PT100 sensors, pressure transducers,rnvalves and piping. The rig integrates an on-line acquisition and control system to allow high qualityrndata throughput. Special attention has been paid to safety issues and the flexibility of the layout,rnincluding two reservoirs for solution calibration and control. Experiments to be conducted in therntest rig will allow characterizing solutions performance in a wide range of concentrations,rntemperature and pressure conditions. Two phase and single phase heat exchanger flow andrnperformances using the ammonia-based solutions also will be evaluated.
