Removal and Replacement of Urea Stripper and Carbamate Condenser during PCS Nitrogen Fertilizer Planned Shutdown in October of 2001, Augusta, GA

The removal and replacement of the Carbamate Condenser and Urea Stripper was required due to impending end of life. The analysis and design of the existing structure and foundation was performed to determine if the existing structure could carry the added loads without major structural modifications. Some mechanical systems' modifications were required. Further a special jacking system and rigging procedure is analyzed and reviewed to evaluate the benefits and challenges of removing the Urea Stripper laterally, out the side of the structure.
