Evaluacion del Alineamiento Estrategico TI - Negocio y su impacto en la Productividad de las Pequenas y Medianas Empresas del Cluster Minero en Antofagasta, Chile

The small and medium companies are a key factor for the improvement of the competitiveness in a geographic area or country. According to Porter (1990), the improvement of the competitiveness in those companies requires of several factors among them the IT - Business alignment is critical. This article is focused in the evaluation of the level of the IT- Business Strategic alignment in a sample of SMEs that belongs to the mining cluster of the region of Antofagasta, Chile and the assessment of the relationship between productivity of the SMEs and the level of strategic IT - Business alignment. The Mining Cluster of Chile, where the study took place, is one of most important of the country since the mining sector rise to 8% of the GIP of Chile and 46% of Chileans exports are in this sector. In order to test empirically the validity of the proposals of this study, SMEs in the Mining Cluster of the region of Antofagasta were interviewed. The analysis of the data gathered in the study showed the existence of a positive relation between the IT-business alignment and the productivity of these SMEs. Additionally, the study suggests that the relation between IT - business alignment is indirectly related with the productivity through factors like size of the companies, service quality, customer satisfaction.
