The Effect of Emerging IT Groups on Coping with Rapid IT Change

Rapid IT change increases the complexity of ITmanagement. In response, many organizations dedicate agroup of IT professionals to evaluate emerging IT. Asurvey was sent to a nationwide sample of 1,000 ITorganizations asking whether or not they had such agroup, and how they coped with rapid IT change. Twohundred forty-six respondents provided data. The datarevealed five categories of coping, Education andTraining, New Procedures, Vendor Support, ConsultantSupport, and Endurance. Organizations with and withouta group differed significantly on all but Endurance. Thesefindings provide a basis for future research as well as apractical understanding of how IT managers cope withchanging IT.
