APPLICATION OF TOPICAL FLAME RETARD ANT FINISHES TO TENCEL~® FABRICS

Tencel~® lyocell can be subjected to commercial flame retardant finishes of the Pyrovatex and Probanrntype. With Pyrovatex, less strength losses are seen than on cotton and with both types of finish, thernfabric hand is significantly softer.rnThe cross linking behavior of the Pyrovatex chemistry is sufficient to prevent fibrillation on repeatedrnlaundering.rnWith Proban, the fabric hand is significantly better on lyocell than cotton. The polymer generated duringrnthe Proban finishing does not effectively crosslink the fiber and so the fabric appearance will deterioraternon washing as a result of fiber fibrillation. To prevent this a secondary finish is necessary. If this isrnundesirable, then Tencel® A100 gives an opportunity to apply Proban and achieve excellent long termrnwash durability.
