NEW LAYOUT OF A1 FLORENCE-BOLOGNA HIGHWAY: INTEGRATED SEISMIC REFLECTION SURVEY AND TOMOGRAPHIC INVERSION TO PERFORM STRUCTURAL GEOLOGICAL MODELLING ALONG THE MAIN TUNNEL ROUTE
The Al highway between Firenze and Bologna comprises the construction of a new 8.5 km double tunnel in an area with complex geological setting. Subsequently an exploration program was settled to investigate this gap; the plan included several boreholes with wireline coring, seismic reflection profile along the layout, and cross-hole and surface to borehole tomographic surveys. The target of this study was focused on the southern side where a complex fault related transition between hard turbiditic sandstones and chaotic argillites is known to occur.
