CONSTRUCTION OF A THIRD LANE ALONG THE A1 HIGHWAY ACROSS HILLY FLORENCE OUTSKIRTS: GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATION AT TUNNEL ROUTES

The Al highway between Firenze South and Firenze North exits is undergoing a development project, based on the construction of a new third lane and an upgrading of highway interconnections. Moreover at Firenze Certosa exit, a new road with long tunnels is planned to bypass the Galluzzo village. Subsequently an exploration program was settled to investigate the tunnel routes, including boreholes with wireline coring, together with seismic refraction and reflection profiling. The seismic methods, with borehole calibration, were useful to achieve a geometrical reconstruction in a very complex geological environment.
