Eglin's Air Quality Compliance Assistance Team – A TotalQuality Approach to Environmental Compliance at aFederal Facility

The 96 CEG/CEVC, Environmental Management Compliance Branch at Eglin AFB, hasdeveloped a proactive approach for ensuring air quality compliance. Eglin has assembled anassertive team of air quality experts to promote compliance with federal, state, and local airquality regulations. The Air Quality Compliance Assistance (AQCA) team functions as a liaisonbetween environmental management and facility personnel engaging in regulated activities.Continuity books, Unit Environmental Coordinator (UEC) commitment and training, quarterlysite visits, and job-specific air quality training for all personnel are some of the mechanisms usedby the team in this total quality approach toward environmental compliance. The mainintentions of the assistance team are to lessen the burden at the shop level for demonstratingcompliance and to establish a rapport with those individuals through assistance and training.The AQCA team has taken innovative approaches to air quality compliance with newtechnologies such as web-based data management systems, online emissions source inventories,computer-based air quality training, and on-line recordkeeping documents. Additionally,chemical usage reporting and tracking are being utilized and recently, the team has begun tomanage air quality equipment data by incorporating a Geographic Information System (GIS).Team members are continuously seeking innovative computer-based technologies to streamlinerecord keeping demands. The Air Quality Compliance Assistance Team, supported bycomputer-based technologies, is the key to air quality compliance at Eglin AFB.
