Data from satellite sensors such as the MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometerrn(MODIS) and ground based in-situ measurements have been analyzed to determine therntransport and effect of pollutants in Class I areas. The combination of surface monitorsrnfrom networks such as Interagency Monitoring for PROtected Visual Environmentsrn(IMPROVE) with time series and transport model analysis has been effective inrndetermining sources of haze to Class I areas. We have demonstrated that MODIS can bernused to monitor aerosol transport using spaceborne observations.1 In this study, wernpresent an initial examination of transport of pollutants to a number of Class I sites.rnProducts such as Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD), and ground based in-situ measurementsrnsuch as Particulate Matter (PM) and visibility are examined. We expect that analysis ofrnMODIS data will lead to significant advances in the ability to discern sources of aerosolrnto these sensitive areas.
