Liquid Solutions LLC, a joint business between GEI Liquid Solutions, LLC (GEI) and Shaw Liquid Solutions, LLC (Shaw) is currently operating a patented Evaporation (E-VAP~R) System (System) treating industrial wastewater, and inorganic waste water at multiple locations for domestic clients including power plants, petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, fertilizer companies, landfills, and others. Wastewater streams from refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants and similar medium-scale industries have traditionally been treated by a variety of technologies, such as solvent extraction, froth flotation and oil water separation. Advantages of the System in comparison to conventional treatment include modularization, which makes the System adaptable to changing waste streams; the ability of the System to handle various waste streams and zero-liquid discharge (ZLD).Low cost, renewable landfill gas (LFG) has been used to fuel the System, as well as waste heat from landfill gas fueled generators. The use of landfill gas significantly reduces the cost of treatment compared to other processes. Many Systems are presently operating at landfill sites located in the Central portion of US where significant volumes of refinery wastewater are produced. Left untreated, LFG, which contains high concentrations of methane, is discharged to the atmosphere where the methane significantly contributes to the green house effect. When LFG is used to fuel the System, carbon credit contributes significantly towards the revenue in Kyoto Treaty-bound countries. This process can generate carbon credits within the US by "fuel switching" and if a site is not regulated for actual carbon capture; the System can help achieve a Carbon Footprint Reduction. A typical process is a modular, skid-mounted System that includes tanks for storage of wastewater, for storage of saleable liquid product in waste streams, and in some cases, tanks for storage of separated oil. The System also includes an LFG-fired evaporator, a demister for capture of large water droplets, and a discharge stack (or an LFG-fired flare). Ancillary support equipment includes a dewatering system, utility supply and distribution system and a PLC-based control system within a stand-alone control trailer. The unit is well suited to utilize waste heat from LFG-fueled generators producing electricity or from other hot-gas sources including boilers, furnaces and gas turbines. When a waste heat source exists at a site of industrial wastewater generation, an inside-the-fence zero liquid discharge can be achieved. This paper includes the details of the process, equipment, process and corrosion data and the projects currently underway in the US.
