Goodrich Corporation has developed the ROTABS algorithm (Ref. 1, 2). This approach has demonstrated excellent ability to get rotor vibrations within required levels in a single attempt. The algorithm was expanded in recent years to provide both a minimum vibration full adjustment set as well as a reduced adjustment set which still provides vibration levels within prescribed levels. This reduced adjustment set, known as the minimum adjustment set, has fewer adjustments than the minimum vibration adjustment set. Each approach may introduce more or less risk in the presence of adjustment errors. In order to ascertain the risks associated with each adjustment type, Monte Carlo simulations were performed. In these simulations, the adjustments were randomly modified to simulate maintainer-induced errors. The resulting vibration levels were analyzed to see which approach provided better vibration solutions. The Monte Carlo simulations show that the HUMS RTB algorithm performed well in the presence of reasonable adjustment errors.
