The impact of the emitted PM_(10) aerosol and AD aerosol on the formation of secondary aerosols including sulfate, nitrate, ammonium aerosols using the aerosol dynamic model, gas-phase chemistry of the CIT model and the Asian Dust Aerosol Model (ADAM) with the emission inventories of Streets et al. (2002) has been examined for the period from 8 to 14 April 2001 in the East Asian region. The results illustrate that the emitted PM_(10) aerosol has little impact on the formation of secondary aerosols due to small fractional content of cations in the PM_(10) aerosol. However, a significant fraction of sulfate is predicted to be associated with AD aerosol. The regions where the maximum transformed aerosols due to adsorption on the AD surface extend from southeastern China across Korea to southeastern Russia, where the relative humidity is higher than 60 %, thereby providing a favorable condition for the accommodation of gaseous pollutants on the AD aerosol. The neutralization reaction of AD aerosol that is not included in this study will be worthwhile to understand the role of AD aerosol on the tropospheric chemistry. This is now on hand.
