Grain size distributions of water-soluble ions in the dust samples collected in Japan during the IOP 2002 are presented. SO_4~(2-) and NH_4~+ are abundant in the smaller grain sizes of less than 1 μm reflecting anthropogenic origin. The larger grain size fractions over 3 μm are enriched in Na~+, Cl~-, Ca~(2+) and NO_3~-reflecting sea salt. Non-sea-salt NO_3~-/SO_4~(2-) ratio is larger for coarser dust particles over 2 μm indicating the affinity of NO_3~-with sea salt. Non-sea-salt NO_3~- and SO_4~(2-) are well neutralized by NH_4~+, Na~+ and Ca~(2+) .
