Mixing state of dust particles over Dunhuang , China: Electron microscopy of individual aerosol particles collected with balloon-borne impactor

In order to investigate the initial states of Asian dust (KOSA) particles, we made electron microscopic experiments of the particles collected in the free troposphere over Dunhuang, China (40°00′N, 94°30′E) in spring of 2003 and 2004, in summer of 2002, and in fall of 2004. Aerosol particles were collected in three layers (from 3 to 5, 5 to 7, 7 to9 km) with balloon-borne sampler. In this workshop we will discuss the mixing state and chemical composition of the dust particles over a KOSA source area.
