Unless europium is not separated following voloxidation, the proposed KAIST fuel cycle based on melt-refining is not intrinsically proliferation resistant and in this regard does not represent a significant improvement over pyroprocessing As some nations, including South Korea, consider fast reactors as components of a future energy mix, the proliferation resistance of fast reactor nuclear fuel cycles increases in importance for international security.
