VISUALIZATION STUDY OF HEAT TRANSPORT MECHANISM IN SUPERCRITICAL NITROGEN

Heat transport mechanisms in supercritical nitrogen are examined by using a laser holographic interferometer. The experimental apparatus for the visualization study is designed to observe the process of thermal energy propagation under the supercritical state. The experimental cell is a rectangular parallelepiped surrounded with two optical windows, a ceiling, two side-walls made of Bakelite and a planar heater at the bottom. Heat is applied in step functions from the planar heater. Three cernox resister temperature detectors (RTDs) are set vertically in the cell to obtain the temperature distribution. The measured temperatures are compared with the experimental results obtained from the visualization study.
