In order to process and recycle worn-out tires of automobiles and tracks a novel cold air freezing system is presented in this paper. This system produces refrigerated air at temperature below -100?C by means of a stage-by-stage refrigeration system. The cold air goes through a moving bed to chill the tire chips, then returns to the first stage compressor of the refrigeration system. Several tests, such as precooling and chilling the tire, comminuting them into powder, rewarming the rubber powder, recovering the cooling energy and so on, were conducted. The overall processing efficiency of the whole system is about 1.2 kW/kg tire.
