In Metro interconnected ring network, each ring can be used as a protection path for the other by using the cross-connecting operation of OXCs, and hence to improve the survivability of the network. Firstly, we propose the survivability model of the metro interconnected network, and analyze the survivability schemes in detail. Then, we perform a quantitative analysis of the survivability in interconnected ring network. Next, we set up the link simulation by using Optisystem software to simulate the survivability schemes in intersection ring network. Finally, we compare the BER performance before and after the failure, and study how the EDFAs and nonlinear effects impact the performance of the network. Simulation results show that interconnected ring network can improve the survivability of MAN. In addition, the influence of cascaded EDFAs and nonlinear effects should be considered and the related parameters should be optimized while planning the metro interconnected ring network.
