EIG Ltd. has developed a 50kW lithium-ion battery system that can be used for PHEV application. The structure of the battery module was designed to allow flexible scalability and mechanical durability. Electronic controllers and management systems were incorporated in the package for reliable operation of the battery. The developed battery pack was characterized in comparison with the pristine unit cells to identify the power/energy loss originated from the cell-to-cell connection. The accuracy of SOC estimation was measured to be more than 95% and the temperature distribution inside the battery pack was uniform within 5 ℃ over the repeated cycles.
