NEW ADHESIVELY BONDED STEEL STRUCTURES FOR THE BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

In the present paper innovative bridge decks employing bonding techniques are described. The plates are constructed as sandwich plates. Tests on two mock-ups, one with a core made from triangular sections and one with a core made of rectangular hollow sections, have been conducted. The failure mode, which was observed during the tests underlines the importance of an optimized fabrication process and subsequent quality control. If these requirements are fulfilled the bridge decks with bonding techniques described in this paper might be a promising alternative to conventional bridge deck constructions.
