Juniper: the generic EMU for the new Railway

To summarise the process and progress of delivering the first Juniper trains into the new rail structure, we are now nearing completion of the assembly of Unit 1 of the South West Trains fleet with Gatwick Express Unit 1 close behind it. The investment made over the last two years has already shown benefits in terms of our ability to provide a flexible train layout and equipment compliment, to reduce lead times to the first train through a high carry over of generic design modules and shortened manufacturing durations, and in achieving significant reductions in cost for the customer, both in the initial purchase / lease cost and also through a lower whole life cost achieved by higher reliability and ease of maintenance.
