摘要

Radioecology is usually defined as the study of the pathways and distribution of environmental radio-contaminants in time and space. The ultimate goal of research in radioecology is to understand the basic processes and underlying mechanisms governing the transport and accumulation of radio-contaminants in diverse ecosystems in order to predict their sometimes multifaceted pathways and, hence, estimate potential radiation doses to human populations. The mechanisms are often complex and a quantitative understanding of them requires an inter-disciplinary approach which necessarily draws on a broad range of scientific expertise in subjects that include biology, chemistry, hydrology, mathematics (modelling), meteorology, oceanography and atmospheric and environmental physics.
