The problem of vibration control on Large Flexible Space Structure (LFSS) is fundamental and structure-control interaction could be crucial. Because of the need to generate a finite (and performing) control system, the problem of spillover instability could arise and become critical when the dimensions of the system are great. This paper deals with the reduction of the model of the structure and presents a special technique for the reduction or the suppression of the spillover in the control of the vibration of LFSS. A special gain matrix for the controller and the estimator is obtained by means of a constrained optimization process; numerical and experimental examples and a trade-off are carried out to test the algorithm.
