Prospects and Techniques for Eddy-Resolving Acoustic Tomography in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico

This is a summary paper that introduces the prospects and techniques for eddy-resolving acoustic tomography in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. It is designed to set the stage for a series of presentations and papers that will identify the issues and scope of work required to establish, operate, and benefit from the near real-time monitoring of a tomographic slice across the entrance to DeSoto Canyon in the northeastern Gulf. This tomographic slice is viewed to be a prototype for an Eastern Gulf Wide network of slices. This paper is in the form of an extended abstract or executive summary of plans, techniques, and benefits of the proposed tomographic slice.
