An overview of passive ozone removal in indoor environment was performed by discussing ozone removal performance and secondary emissions of passive removal materials (PRMs).Activated carbon,unpainted gypsum wallboard,perlite-based ceiling tile and clay wall plaster are the potential PRMs have been found.They all have relatively high ozone deposition velocities and low secondary emissions.Except for activated carbon,the other three materials will or may have higher secondary emissions under contamination.Further studies on enhancing reactivity and lowering secondary emissions are needed.Comparison of active and passive ozone removal indicates that active methods are expected to be suitable for commercial or public buildings and enclosed factories where mechanical ventilation is mainly used.In residences where natural ventilation dominates,passive removal is more suitable.
