Effects of low shot speed on microstructure and mechanical properties of ADC12 aluminum alloy in the super-slow-speed(SSS) die casting process are investigated by utilizing a simple circular tensile testing specimen in order to optimize the SSS die casting process and parameters. Optical microscope, SEM, X-ray diffusion and energy spectrum are taken as the tools to measure the microstructure and mechanical properties of this material. Compared with two kinds of die castings under both producing conditions of different low-shot speed at the same start position of high-speed injection stage and different start position of high-speed injection stage at the same low-shot speed, it is found that the effect of low shot speed on casting density in the die casting process of the SSS is not obvious. It is also found a-Al dendrites of these castings become coarser and their mechanical properties are worse with the increase of low-speed speed at the same start position of high-speed injection stage. Results show that the optimized value of the start position exists at the same low-speed speed, and a-Al dendrites of the castings are smaller and their mechanical properties are better at the start position of 260mm.
