The generation of stratospheric gravity waves (GWs) due to a realistic upper-tropospheric jet stream accompanied with the cut-off-low is simulated by using a meso-scale model (Weather Research and Forecasting,WRF).The episode selected for the case took place in June 2010 over the Northeast China.A 4-day model run reproduces the key features of synoptic pattern and the upper level jet stream.Simulation results clearly show that pronounced stratospheric GWs arose in the vicinity of jet stream,primarily in the jet stream exit region above the jet stream core,and propagate preferentially in the upstream of the background winds.
