Within the Business Process Improvement Program initiated at PlacerrnDome during 2003 was the Business Performance Management Projectrn(BPM).BPM 's aim has been to extract productivity improvements fromrnindividual business units by providing a model for implementing leadingrnpractice based management process within the Placer Dome Group,rnsharing management best practice,injecting new management techniquesrnand instilling a continuous improvement culture.The installation of anrnunderground dispatch system has been a key component of the BPMrnproject at Osborne Mine.Information capture and analysis allows forrncorrective action to be planned and executed before there is a materialrnimpact on the performance of a business unit.This paper briefly describesrnthe principles and practices of effective business performancernmanagement,the four processes of a management operating systemrnnamely;strategic and tactical planning,implementation and reporting.rnThe identification of business drivers,their measures and associated keyrnperformance indicators is discussed.The benefits of an undergroundrndispatch system at Osborne with respect to safety,production andrnmaintenance is described along with the installation process within thernmining department that included its configuration,resourcing and rollrnout.
