摘要

The replacement of corneal tissue with a synthetic polymer and the maintainance for long term of such devices are complex issues and a very difficult task. In fact, a task never fully achieved so far. The artificial corneas with porous skirt, developed by some teams over the last decade, showed some promising results. The prosthesis developed by our group is such a device. It is the result of efforts which, we hope, will lead eventually to a truly functional artificial cornea.
