摘要

The past fiteen years has seen a gradual but essential ex[ansion of research in the area of fretting in CHina. About ten inversities and research institutes have offerened the opportunity of postygraduate studies leading to the award of a masters degree or doctoral degree. apart from some fundamental researches that wre carried out in academic institutions, most problems were from practice in which the researchers, including the staff of the universities and the engineers in civil and military industries, have been involved to pursure the appropriate solutions. It is often the case that freetting is recognised as a problem of a hardnut to crack. For further work, there is no doubt penty of room for soujnd fundamental researchm but the end-user technology for fretting prevention and allevation in engineering, mainly in avation, power station, modern bridge construction and high speed transportation, sh0ould always be in the forefront of our minds so as to meet needs of rapid development of China's economy.
