SSID Wlan(D)Scape

摘要

The paper will discuss the proliferation of wireless networks and introduce an open source framework written in JAVA, the SSID Wlan(d)Scape project, which promotes the development and availability of wireless services. The framework gathers, combines, and publishes network data from several wireless standards and services for customers, service providers, education and research. The framework, a distributed client-server architecture, provides network scarning and tracking features, topographical visualization, imaging and mapping services, a rudimentary geo-tracking and navigation system, as well as interfaces for optional features as location based services.rnThe paper will present the used methods and technologies and present findings and solutions as well as advantages and disadvantages compared with existing applications and projects. The paper will document the system design and architecture of the Wlan(D)Scape framework and discuss features required in the emerging landscape of wireless networks and applications. We will further discuss the sociology of wireless networks and the implications of such landscapes.
