Reconfigurable Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a recent trend for design and implementation of electronic systems. It is used not only for implementing complex logic functions but also for the adaptive computing systems. This paper goes deeply inside the reconfigurable FPGA systems. It presents the concepts of soft hardware and the categories of dynamic FPGA. The comparisons between reconfigurable logic-reprogrammable logic, dynamic reconfigurable FPGA-traditional FPGA, aad the various type of loading options are introduced. Many of the most exciting applications being developed today involve run-time reconfigurability and reconfigurable (adaptive) computing. This paper introduces the run-time reconfiguration and the concepts of adaptive computing. The concept of virtual FPGA hardware is discussed, some areas of current applications of reconfigurable FPGA are introduced, and 16 new areas of applications are suggested.
