Low voltage distribution networks are characterized by an ever growing diffusion of single and three phase distributed generators whose unregulated operation may deplete the power quality level. It is thus of interest to investigate how such active elements could be managed in order to optimize the system operation in a smart grid scenario. In this paper local control strategies of single-phase and three-phase inverter-interfaced generation units for voltage magnitude regulation and current unbalance compensation respectively are presented. Simulation results show the positive effects that this type of distributed compensation may have on the power quality of low voltage distribution systems.
