In Japan, performance-based codes have been introduced by the amendment of the Building Standard Law in 2000 to provide more flexibility and clarity in building regulatory system. In the execution of the performance-based fire safety design, it is necessary to establish appropriate design fire scenarios, under which compliance with the fire safety requirements are verified against the acceptance criteria.
