The RETScreenTM computer program was developed to assist in the pre-feasibility or feasibilityrnassessment of renewable energy technologies. The first version of RETScreen, released in 1998, included fivernrenewable technologies (wind, solar ventilation air heating, biomass, low head hydro and photovoltaics).rnThree more technologies have been added to RETScreen: passive solar heating, ground-source heat pumpsrnand solar water heating. This paper describes the model development and validation for the passive solarrnheating module.rnThe purpose of the RETScreen program is to provide a preliminary estimate of the expectedrnenergy savings, capital cost and financial feasibility of renewable energy technologies. The RETScreenrnPassive Solar Heating (PSH) model is intended to help architects, builders and the window industry increasernthe passive solar contribution of their buildings byrna) selecting the most energy efficient (and cost effective) window for their building, andrnb) orienting windows and designing the building to increase the passive solar contribution.
