The determination of the inward-flowing fraction of the absorbed solar radiation in shading attachments is onerncomponent of solar heat gain that requires further investigation. As such, a series of tests were conducted on a Venetianrnblind for a range of geometries and environmental conditions in an effort to develop a suitable method for determiningrnthe inward-flowing fraction for a shading Iayer. Radiative and convective heat transfer coefficients were determinedrnaround the shading layer with the assistance of a calibration transfer standard, radiation view factor software, andrnmaterial long-wave optical properties. The prediction of the inward-flowing fraction was then accomplished by thernapplication of these coefficients to a thermal resistance network. For all cases, there was good correlation betweenrnmodelle d and measured inward-flowing fraction data.
