Fibre-cement - originally known as asbestos cement - has undergone major transformations over the past 25 years. Corrugated roofing faces some acceptance problems partly caused by changing design fashions partly caused by the lack of practical insulation systems for industrial buildings. Flat sheets Thanks to modern designs the market for dry walls and wall cladding is increasing, opening the door for new applications of flat sheets. Especially niche markets where sheets/boards of higher quality than standard gypsum boards are required, are attractive for fibre-cement producers. Production process The production process is continuously adapted and specialized to the relevant fibre cement product. With assistance from Wehrhahn - the innovator in fibre-cement technology - fibre-cement producers look for new markets and new products. The paper presents a number of different applications for fibre-cement from different regions of the world and explains the preferred production process.
