Wood-plastic composites are materials produced from a combination of wood and synthetic thermoplastics. These hybrid materials share many characteristics and market forces with their inorganic-bonded counterparts. For instance, both hybrid composites are performance driven, primarily responding to the need for increased durability for external environments. However, unlike their inorganic counterparts, these composites utilize advanced processing techniques that facilitate section control. This manuscript is intended to be both a review and status of wood plastic composite markets and technologies in North America.
