Elements of Software Risks in Agile Software Development Methods and their effects on Software Quality

摘要

The aim of this paper is to investigate and identify the potential risk factors associated with the light weight software development process like Extreme Programming (XP). The areas covered include a brief re-visit to the agile philosophy and some of the XP practices, the most popular among all the agile methods. Like any other software development method XP projects face risks and the associated quality issues. There are certain assumptions made when these agile practices are proposed. If these are met then it has been identified that XP also addresses risk management issues throughout the project and this has been noted to enhance the quality considerably. The contributions of this paper are (1) the identification of the elements of software risks in XP like agile methods (2) An analysis of risks in XP projects and their effects on the quality of the software (3) Identification and discussion of the role of risk management activities within XP projects that will address the software risks and help to enhance the software quality.
