We propose a framework for generating an Information Access Space from existing knowledge repositories. Recently, vast amounts of information are accumulated at accelerating paces in many fields. We need new access architecture for organizing and accessing intellectual assets.rnWhat is needed here is a personalization mechanism that allows each user of an information base to define his (her) sub-collection of resources of interest. It is such a gcustomizedh sub-collection that we call a user context, or simply context. A context is a modular representation of information under different perspectives. Intuitively, a context is a set of objects within which each object is associated with a set of descriptors and a reference to some other context. The context mechanism that we use is not concerned with the internal structure of the objects. This notion of context is a glight-weighth abstraction mechanism that is different than the usual abstraction mechanisms used in modeling information systems. It can be used orthogonally together with other abstraction mechanisms. A Context-based Information Access Space enables operations over contextualized object. In this paper, we describe the notion of context and the component based framework of a Context-based Information Access Space.
