In this study, a new simulation program that could simulate the collapsing process of timber-frame structures by adopting the Modified Distinct Element Method (MDEM) was developed. In the MDEM, it was possible to trace the movement of any parts that were separated each other from a unity after the failure of several connections, and this property was suitable to our purpose. Firstly the establishment of the simulation method of the bearing wall behaviour was made. For this purpose, the deciding rules of parameters for the computational models were examined using the mechanical constants of actual joints. Then MDEM simulations on nailed sheathing bearing walls and bracing bearing walls were made. The parameters of frame members (beam or column) were decided by .the comparison between the results of simulations of 4-points bending tests and experiments. Other parameters of sheathing or joint members were decided by simulations of two rail shear or slip tests of joint parts. Using results of the wall analysis, we made simulations on the collapsing process of three dimensional frame structures. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) Simulated load-displacement curves at the simulation models of the nailed sheathing bearing wall were similar to that of real shear panels. 2) Our program could make good three dimensional simulations for the collapsing process of three-story timber-frame structures.
