The Moire fringe technology is becoming a new technology which can compete with classical interference and holographic interference gradually. Measurement methods include shadow and projection Moiré according to light wa y [1,2]. This paper adopts shadow Moire to detect surface contour. A grating is positioned close to a testing object and its shadow is observed through the grating. The Moire fringe patterns, generated by the interference of grating lines and shadow lines, are captured by a high-speed CCD camera with a electronic gauging lens. According to the character, the fringe patterns is processed by a simple temporal analysis algorithm and the surface contour is gained at any time, so the surface contour of the testing object is examined accurately. Through plenty of experiments, this paper validate it is effective and precise that shadow Moire connect to temporal analysis algorithm to the detection of surface contour, and make the prospect of application stud y [3,4].
