stoRE, Facilitating Energy Storage to Allow High Penetration of Intermittent Renewable Energy

StoRE aims to facilitate energy storage development on a European andrnnational level. Therefore a consortium was put together to represent allrndifferent aspects of bulk energy storage. StoRE will deal with the nontechnologicalrnbarriers to energy storage, creating the right regulatory andrnmarket conditions that will give incentives for the development of energyrnstorage infrastructure to the extent necessary for the accommodation of thernplanned renewable energy installations to the electricity grid. The possiblernpositive and negative impacts of the different energy storage options on thernenvironment will be also assessed and the considerations of the relevantrnactors will be taken into account. The main focus is on Pumped HydrornEnergy Storage (PHES) and Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES).
