Calibration of hydrogeochemical model of Xinzhou Basin using strontium isotopes

摘要

Inverse geochemical modeling (PHREEQC) was used to identify the evolution of groundwater with emphasis on F release in Xinzhou basin. The modeling was based on chemical and isotopic data of the groundwater, chemical analysis of soil deposits and rocks, scanning electron microscopic (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). However, like in many other sites, the groundwater chemistry cannot be explained by standard groundwater chemical modeling because of the complexity of the groundwater system, where various processes such as reactions, mixing advection and diffusion coexist and alternate in space and time. Together with the hydrochemical data, strontium isotope composition helps to understand the processes and provides important hydrogeochemical information about the concept model. The strontium isotope can provide valuable information mat can be used for groundwater model calibration and make the inverse modeling more valid.
