AUTOMATION PRIMER FOR SUPERVISORS AND OPERATORS

This paper is intended as a simple guide to some of the process instrumentation, control equipment and software found in modern aluminium casthouses. The reasons for the increasing prevalence of process control in casthouses is given, followed by a step by step discussion about field instrumentation, controllers, SCADA systems, and higher level integration of systems.
