Seamless Mobility Management with QoS Guarantee for Next-generation IP-based Heterogeneous Network Environments

It is widely anticipated that Mobile IP will be the basic mobility management protocol for next generation IP-based heterogeneous network. However, the handover performance of Mobile IP is far from the "Seamless Mobility" requirement because Mobile IP is a simple routing redirection mechanism to support mobility between IP-subnet no matter what the attached access technology is and the handover performance of Mobile IP is very poor due to the weakness of mobility management and the inherent problems in IP such as no sensitivity on the requirements of QoS from application layer and the change of under layer service environments. According to the problems, the article tries to propose the seamless mobility management solution with QoS considerations. In the solution, Mobile IP is looked as IP-layer signaling protocol to support mobility and IP-layer handover process is scheduled by an effective Seamless Mobility Control scheme. In addition, multi-mode routing support in Mobile Node is proposed to meet the requirement of seamless mobility.
